I found the recent murders of Korean Americans in Atlanta to be particularly disturbing since I served alongside freedom-loving South Korean soldiers as a member of the 7th Infantry Division at Camp Casey, South Korea. I was there when the North Koreans captured the USS Pueblo and we were placed on full alert. Every South Korean I knew was more than anxious to defend their homeland from the communist north. After military service, I managed a sewing plant in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, where I recruited many Korean Americans from the U.S. Army base at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. They were all excellent employees. When garment manufacturing moved overseas, I began a new career as an auto salesman, where I sold to and became friends with many Hmong families. The Hmong is an ancient race from South Asia, and many served alongside American forces in Vietnam and were allowed to emigrate to the U.S., including our area, where they live and flourish.
