A PREGNANT WOMAN was left unable to avail of maternity services for over three weeks after being registered incorrectly as a man by the State. 
The woman, who is due her 12-week scan in two weeks, said that the maternity unit of the HSE told her to wait and that there was nothing they could do to speed up the process of changing her gender on her file.  ....

Breastfeeding: Call for better access to facilities 'just to normalise it'


There is a call for more to be done to normalise breastfeeding in public.
A recent study found that just over one-third of mothers are breastfeeding their newborns when they leave hospital.
The Irish Maternity Indicator System report for 2019 showed that Ireland
This report showed that just two out of three women start breastfeeding before leaving hospital.
Some 63.8% of women initiate breastfeeding at their baby’s first feed - compared with rates of 81% in the UK, 79% in the US and 90% in Australia.
UNICEF said breastfeeding was the norm 100 years ago in Ireland, but since the 1950s - after the introduction of the Mother and Infant Care Scheme - rates started their sharp decline. ....
