And now, something I never thought I would have to say: Dreasjon Reed. About 50 people gathered on the steps of the Monument Saturday afternoon to honor the lives of those killed by police, including Dreasjon Reed and McHale Rose, who were shot by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers within hours of each other last May.

Emily Hopkins, Indianapolis Star Replay Video UP NEXT Indiana National Guard members tasked with helping nursing homes respond to the coronavirus pandemic will return to their normal lives or move on to other missions over the next several weeks. More than 1,500 National Guard soldiers were deployed to Indiana nursing facilities in November to help an exhausted staff care for residents.  We have received countless notes of appreciation and heard numerous stories of how much this support has meant to all of you, said Dr. Dan Rusyniak, chief medical officer of the Family and Social Services Administration during Wednesday s press conference.  The work of these soldiers has boosted morale, helped free up staff to provide clinical care, and has no doubt saved lives.

The Guard soldiers will support the facilities by assisting with testing, reporting test results, screening employees and ensuring infection control practices are in place. Indiana National Guard members will continue to help nursing home staff respond to the coronavirus, Gov. Holcomb announced on Tuesday. More than 1,300 members of the guard were deployed to Indiana s 534 nursing homes since early November to help exhausted staff care for residents. That deployment was expected to expire at the end of December.
