Amir’s move to update laws ensures justice and equality

Doha: Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has updated laws to abolish previous immunity provisions for ministers, Doha News has reported citing Official Gazette.
The decision was taken a day prior to the arrest of the country’s minister of finance over corruption charges. The update in law scraps the Accountability of Ministers Law which lifts protection provided to government officials in the face of civil or criminal prosecution, as is the case with all residents and citizens, according to the Gazette, Doha News reported.
The Emir has replaced Ali Sharif al-Emadi with the minister of commerce and industry taking over his duties
Qatar’s Finance Minister Ali Sharif al-Emadi has been relieved of his duties, an order for his arrest has been issued to investigate reports of corruption.
“His Highness The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani issued Emiri Order Number 1 of 2021 relieving Minister of Finance Ali Shareef al-Emadi, from his position, and that His Excellency Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, shall be entrusted, in addition to his duties, to carry out the duties of the Minister of Finance,” the Emiri Diwan said in a statement on 6 May.

The meeting was attended by HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari and Algeria s Minister of Commerce Kamal Raziq, as well as Algeria s ambassador to Qatar Dr Mustafa Boutoura and his Qatari counterpart, ambassador Hassan bin Ibrahim al-Maliki. The business council is chaired by QBA chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani representing the Qatari side, and from the Algerian side, Kamal Mola, head of the business council.
