Photograph: Ebru Yildiz Fri 30 Jul 2021 03.30 EDT Formed out of Indiana University’s Soul Revue and during rehearsals in a basement, Durand Jones & the Indications’ first two albums were unashamedly retro soul. After the second one, American Love Call, gained international attention and acclaim, the third broadens their interests considerably. With vocals shared between Jones (lower) and drummer Aaron Frazer (higher), they stretch from floaty melancholia to gossamer funk and disco, with synths and strings. As many as 19 musicians appear on their most lavish concoctions.

Annual Soup Bowl Benefit to Be Held Virtually

Photo by Kevin Atkins The 27th annual Hoosiers Hills Food Bank Soup Bowl Benefit will be held via the online streaming platform Mandolin on Sunday, February 21, at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature performances from Busman’s Holiday, Sam Bartlett and Eric Schedler, Malcolm Dalglish, Ross Gay, Indiana University Soul Revue, and Carrie Newcomer and Gary Walters, with special appearances by Joshua Bell and Keb’ Mo’. Leading up to the event, soup bowls will be distributed outside the Courtyard by Marriott hotel next to the Monroe Convention Center on Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20. Due to the nature of this year’s event, the bowls will be handed out at random and will not be able to be individually selected as they have been in pre-pandemic years.
