The University Grants Commission (UGC) announced a new set of guidelines for PhD admissions via a public notice on 27 March 2024. These guidelines were approved following an expert committee’s recommendations in the 578th meeting of the UGC held on 13 March 2024. The UGC’s guidelines, which will be applicable in India from the academic session 2024–25 onwards, have stated that PhD admissions will now be based on the National Eligibility Test (NET).
