‘Helping India respond to this latest wave is humane and is in the US national interest’
The United States is working closely with India on its continued and emerging needs during the unprecedented second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, a top State Department official has said.
While the assistance from the U.S. government has been worth $100 million, the private sector has donated an additional $400 million, totalling half a billion dollars to India, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price told reporters at his daily news conference on Tuesday.
“We are continuing to work closely with Indian officials and health experts to identify continued needs and emerging needs in this ongoing crisis,” he said. ....

There are 165 active cases now in the State with 31 infections being reported during the last 24 hours.
The Manipur government has clamped night curfew effective from Friday night in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the State. The order issued by Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar said that essential services would be exempted from the curfew which will remain in force from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. till April 30. After a lull, now there are 165 active cases in the State with 31 infections being reported during the last 24 hours. ....

Nearly a year after India reported its first case of coronavirus from Kerala, the start of the end of the pandemic , as Health Minister Harsh Vardhan described it on Friday, began this morning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the nationwide rollout. The government aims to vaccinate 1 crore healthcare workers and 2 crore frontline workers in the first phase.

Co-WIN, based on five modules, is effectively an upgraded version of the government s Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN) launched in 2015 and used for India s Universal Immunisation Programme.
