New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting both reacted strongly to the US government-funded NGO Freedom House’s report downgrading India’s status to a “partly free” country.
While the MEA spokesperson gave a terse reply to reporters when asked about the report, the I&B ministry issued a long press statement in reaction. ....

'Partly-free' rating: Centre's 7-point rebuttal on US watchdog report | India News

According to the “Freedom in the World’ report released by the Washington-based organization, India slipped in rankings this year because of alleged discrimination against Muslims and increased harassment of government critics and journalists.
The report listed several events in 2020 like religious riots in Delhi, use of sedition laws against critics and hardships endured by migrant workers after PM Modi announced a sudden lockdown to control the coronavirus pandemic.
