NEW DELHI: Another 211,298 new cases of Covid-19 infections were reported from across the country on Thursday. This was higher than nearly 2.09 lakh new cases reported on Wednesday.
The total infections in the country has now gone up to 2,73,69,093. The daily positivity recorded was 9.79 per cent- keeping under 10 per cent for three consecutive days now, the health ministry said.
Another 3,847 people died of the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the country s cumulative toll to 315,235. The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities.
992 fatalities were reported from Maharashtra, 530 from Karnataka, 475 from Tamil Nadu, 193 from Uttar Pradesh, 185 from Punjab, 153 from West Bengal, 151 from Kerala, 130 from Delhi, 107 from Rajasthan and 106 from Haryana. ....

RBI study suggests mix of fiscal, monetary policies to mitigate economic downturn

MUMBAI: A Reserve Bank of India (RBI) study has advocated a mix of fiscal and monetary policies to mitigate economic downturn, saying demand side channel needs to be complemented with a conducive monetary transmission mechanism from the supply side.
Referring to the 2009 crisis, the study by Development Research Group (DRG) on Risk Premium Shocks and Business Cycle Outcomes in India , said that at the micro-level, the interest rate spread, attributed to risk premium on loans, increased in response to a rise in loan defaults during the post-2009 period. ....
