India has logged 636 new cases of COVID-19, while the number of active cases of the infection has increased to 4,394, the health ministry said on Monday.
After the recent surge in COVID-19 cases and the identification of the JN.1 variant in India, Union Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant has issued a letter urging states and union territories to stay vigilant. While acknowledging collaborative efforts in reducing infection rates, he emphasized ongoing efforts to combat public health challenges.
India reported 260 new COVID cases, including one death in Kerala, where the JN.1 subvariant was recently detected. The center issued an advisory for heightened vigilance, emphasizing increased testing and genome sequencing. INSACOG Chief Dr. NK Arora clarified the Kerala death, attributing it to underlying health conditions. He assured the public about the JN.1 subvariant, underscoring INSACOG s monitoring efforts.
India recorded only 33 fresh coronavirus infections, the lowest amount since March 2020, and an active case of 1,606, with a death toll of 5,31,903. The Covid case tally reached 4.49 crore, while the national recovery rate was recorded at 98.81%. The number of people who have recovered from the virus surpasses 4,44,60,523, and the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18%.
