Ashok Leyland's Dealer Directed To Pay Insured Declared Value for Clearing Auto Loan and Pay Balance to Customer

Upholding the method adopted by a district commission for treating the depreciated value of a truck as equal to the insured declared value (IDV) of the vehicle as per the valid and existing insurance policy, the national consumer disputes redressal commission (NCDRC) directed an authorised dealer of Ashok Leyland Ltd to pay the IDV value, a compensation of Rs50,000 and litigation cost of Rs5,000 to the buyer. Further, the payment based on the IDV should be first used to repay the auto loan if pending, and the balance should be paid to the customer, NCDRC clarified. ....
