$4.2 million cleanup project in Hornell to contain gas contaminants

DEC says major phase of the project two-thirds completed
The Evening Tribune
HORNELL Workers are “burning the midnight oil” on a $4.2 million project to remediate the former Manufactured Gas Plant site in Hornell.
The New York State Department of Environment Conservation, which is providing oversight for the National Fuel Gas-financed cleanup, said a major project phase is on track to be completed by around mid-March.
The 1.82 acres of land is located along Franklin Street, near the corner with Canisteo Street, southwest of downtown Hornell. The property is listed as a Class 2 cleanup site in the State Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste locations, meaning it poses a “significant threat to public health,” according to the DEC. ....
