For the upcoming by-polls in Punjab’s two constituencies, the Election Commission of Pakistan has sought the help of Rangers and police personnel to fortify the security arrangements. On February 19, by-polls will be held in NA-75 Daska (Sialkot) and PP-51 Wazirabad district (Gujranwala).
In this regard, the Election Commission of Punjab has also confirmed that Rangers and police personnel will be deployed at all the polling stations, barring those declared sensitive.
In PP-51 Wazirabad, a total of 22 candidates have submitted their nomination papers to the returning officer for the by-election. At least, six candidates are contesting from the PML-N.

Dawn over the phone that the PPP had decided to withdraw its candidates from both the constituencies in favour of PML-N nominees over the latter’s support to PPP candidates in Sindh as per an understanding between the parties.

The opposition parties under the umbrella of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) have started cooperating with each other in the by-elections.
As part of the understanding, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidates for the by-polls in NA-75 Daska (Sialkot) and PP-51 Wazirabad (Gujranwala) have withdrawn their nomination papers in favour of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) nominees in both the constituencies.
Before that, the PML-N announced that it would field candidates in the by-elections in Sindh against the PPP cardholders.
GUJRAT: A total of 22 candidates have filed their nomination papers with the returning officer to contest the by-poll in PP-51 Wazirabad (Gujranwala district) out of which at least six are vying for the PML-N ticket.
Moreover, 16 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the by-poll in NA-75 Daska (Sialkot) that include two daughters of the late PML-N MNA Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah whose demise left the seat vacant.
Gujranwala Divisional Election Commissioner Majid Sharif Dogar, who is also the Gujranwala district returning officer, told Dawn that the lists of final candidates for both the by-polls had been displayed by the respective returning officers on Thursday.
