FOLLOWING your report last week - MP welcomes plan to tackle violence and abuse against women and girls – we expect that he will demonstrate his commitment to the provision of properly funded services to address this issue and a commitment to address underlying causes. Services must include education and training, support for victims, an accessible and effective justice system and treatment programmes for perpetrators. Poverty and economic inequality increase a woman’s risk of being subjected to violence and abuse, women and girls living in poverty are less able to leave abusive situations and they are likely to be more reliant on an abuser.
