Four of the six states in the Southsouth were part of the defunct Eastern Region until May 5, 1967, when former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon carved out 12 states from the then four regions, as part of the strategy to counter the rebellion by the then administrator of the Eastern Region, Lt-Col. Insecurity: Akwa Ibom govt bans motorcycles at night Motorcycle is one of the commonest means of transportation in the oil-rich state, especially in the rural areas. The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, on Saturday announced a ban on the use of motorcycles in the state from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily. Biafra Nations League, BNL, has refuted reports that hoodlums who attacked a police station and hoisted their flag at Ikono LGA of Akwa Ibom State were members of the Eastern Security Network, ESN. DAILY POST reported that armed men alleged to be members of Eastern Security Network, ESN, had attacked a police station at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo in Ikono Local Government area of Akwa Ibom State, killing two police officers and setting ablaze five police vehicles.
