The escalating security situation in the Southeast appears to have cast its long shadow on the security situation in the Southsouth, given the historical and cultural links between the two geo-political zones. Four of the six states in the Southsouth were part of the defunct Eastern Region until May 5, 1967, when former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon carved out 12 states from the then four regions, as part of the strategy to counter the rebellion by the then administrator of the Eastern Region, Lt-Col. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
Today, similar separatist unrest in the Southeast has made the region the country’s latest zone of insecurity. Insecurity: Akwa Ibom govt bans motorcycles at night
Motorcycle is one of the commonest means of transportation in the oil-rich state, especially in the rural areas.
The
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, on Saturday announced a ban on the use of motorcycles in the state from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.
Motorcycle is one of the commonest means of transportation in the oil-rich state, especially in the rural areas.
The ban, which is statewide, covers all types of motorcycles, including power bikes, according to a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem.
The statement did not give reason for the ban which initially affected only three local government areas. ....

A former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has said that “two Nigerias have emerged.”
Chidoka said this on Saturday at The Platform, a programme organized by The Covenant Nation where he noted that many young Nigerians have disconnected from the country.
The former Minister explained that the “Naija” spirit is that of innovation, excellence, and creativity.

Biafra: 'Akwa Ibom attackers not ESN' - BNL names those responsible


Biafra Nations League, BNL, has refuted reports that hoodlums who attacked a police station and hoisted their flag at Ikono LGA of Akwa Ibom State were members of the Eastern Security Network, ESN.
DAILY POST reported that armed men alleged to be members of Eastern Security Network, ESN, had attacked a police station at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo in Ikono Local Government area of Akwa Ibom State, killing two police officers and setting ablaze five police vehicles.
The attack followed an earlier one on Tuesday, when the gunmen stormed Ika police station and killed a female officer, one Esther Akpan and a special police Constabulary, Isonuyo Paul while returning home in a Volvo car ....
