The former nazims, councillors, divisional and district presidents, including the ones from the merged tribal districts, former candidates for national and provincial assemblies and retired bureaucrats, attended the meeting convened by former federal minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khwaja Mohammad Khan Hoti at Islamabad on Saturday night. The core objective behind this development is to provide basic information about the personalities buried in the country’s biggest graveyard in terms of burials, and make people aware of the services rendered by them, while the administration also wants to upgrade the burial services there. “The graveyard has a historical significance, as a large number of people, including several known personalities, are buried here. Therefore, we have decide to keep acknowledging the services of the famous personalities buried here by preparing a history catalogue that will include placement of plaques or iron plates inscribed with the particulars and services of such people,” Deputy Commissioner Mudas ....
Tribute to Noorjehan at PNCA Islamabad March 12, 2021 Islamabad: PWA (Progressive Writers Association) and PNCA (Pakistan National Council of the Arts) joined hands to pay tribute to Madam Noorjehan today (Friday) at PNCA. The audience was taken back to a small town in Qasoor in 1926 where Noorjehan was born as Allahwasai. She learnt to sing early in life (even before she learnt to cry). The family went to Kolkata around 1930 and Allahwasai became Baby Noorjehan She made a name for herself with Punjabi songs. The family returned back to Lahore. What follows is a long journey. Noorjehan worked in films at Lahore during early thirties. She later left for Mumbai, worked and made a name in Urdu films. Got married to film director-editor Shaukat Hussain Rizvii.
