Richmond City Manager Jon Moore said Friday he and Mayor Tim Rix, both of whom attended the trial in support of Costello, are pleased with the outcome as they supported Costello throughout the process.
Police Chief Thomas Costello’s attorney, Arthur Jay Weiss, and Macomb prosecutors last month reached a deal in which Costello entered a no-contest plea on the promise of one year probation. But Judge William Hackel III said he “was not happy” with the sentencing and ordered Costello to jail.
Judge William Hackel said he believes Macomb prosecutors and Costello’s attorney were not taking the matter seriously enough and expressed displeasure Costello failed to apologize.
