The traditional ruler of Igbariam in the Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Nkeli Nzekwe, is dead.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C-Don Adinuba, who confirmed his death, said the monarch had been buried.
Nzekwe was among the 13 monarchs suspended in August 2020 by the state government for travelling to Abuja to visit the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, (retd) without permission from the state government.
The state governor, Willie Obiano, had however on January 1 pardoned Nzekwe and two others, stating that the action was taken in the spirit of the New Year. ....

Daily Trust - Anambra Monarch dies 7 days after lifting his suspension

He died few days after his Ofala festival on January 4th 2021.
The Monarch had celebrated his 30th Ofala festival on January 4th 2021 and died on night of January 7 at his palace over undisclosed ailment.
Source who doesn’t want his name on print said that the traditional ruler died on Thursday in his house and was also buried same day in his compound in Igbariam according to the tradition.
Before his death, he was the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the splinter Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide General Assembly, which is kicking against the ongoing election.
The state Commissioner for information and public enlightenment Mr C. Don confirming the death said that the state government has not been officially notified of his death. ....
