Izzy Ross hosts the Fish Report on July 1, 2021. A commercial fisherman has died after a vessel sank in the south end of Nushagak Bay on Thursday morning with three people on board. Authorities credit Good Samaritans on the scene with helping in the rescue. Nushagak fleet hauls in highest single-day harvest ever, as more than 1.9 million sockeye return to the district Nushagak District fishermen caught the most fish ever in a single day in the history of the district.
Credit Hope McKenney Josh Crozby owns and operates the tender Icelander. He and his crew were on the south line of the Nushagak River, about 25 miles downriver from Dillingham. Crozby said the huge swell of salmon caught them by surprise. ....

Yesterday’s daily bay-wide catch was 775,000 fish, which is a quarter of the 3.2 million fish caught so far. Daily escapement across the bay came to 660,871 fish. Total escapement is at 2.9 million. Nushagak District Escapement around the Nushagak District was 540,175, bringing the total to 2.3 million. The district’s total run is at 4 million fish. The fleet in the Nushagak District caught 325,000 fish yesterday. The district now has the highest total harvest in the bay, at 1.6 million fish. ....
11:13 Yesterday, Bristol Bay s total run was 4.76 million. And the daily catch hit just over 1 million for the first time this season. The total catch so far is at 2.4 million. Saturday’s escapement was 619,917 bringing the total to 2.3 million. One year ago, Bristol Bays total run was at 1.6 million, the total catch neared a million and total escapement was around 679,000. Nushagak District As of 10 a.m. Sunday morning, the total run in the Nushagak District is 3.2 million. The Nushagak fleet in the Nushagak harvested 690,000 fish yesterday, bringing the total catch for the season to 1.63 million. Escapement for the entire district continues strong, 544,400 fish swam up the river yesterday, totaling 1.84 million so far this year. ....
