to go home from the hospital today. it was a very close call and he was clearly happy to be going home to his family. feeling good. reporter: the eight year veteran of the force was shot in the up are right arm last night by a suspected drug dealer. the officer was given a police escort as he left the hospital and returned home to his wife and two young sons. his commanding officer was clearly relieved and proud of the officer he calls one of his best. he s a hard charger, one of my bikes officers engaging in the community and addressing crime issues every night. he works at one of the toughest shifts we have 8:00 to 4:00 and hasn t taken a day off in over two years. reporter: the officer was on bike patrol last night when he and his partners approached a suspicious van in west philadelphia. when they go to stop them question the male he puts it in reverse and makes a u-turn and just drives away. reporter: the officer later found the van on the 5100 block of kersh
