BY PayPal will launch its Pay in 4’ in Australia in early June this year. The option will roll out to PayPal’s 9 million Australia accounts, ready for use by the end of financial year sales. Pay in 4 will be automatically included and integrated with the usual PayPal checkout. It will be interest-free for consumers and comes at no extra cost to existing PayPal business customers. Businesses will have an option to display the payment option on their website. The buy now pay later (BNPL) option has been growing steadily in Australia, particularly among young consumers. Since the pandemic, ecommerce has continued its boom locally, with many shoppers moving online for the first time. In fact, a report from Aus Post says that online purchases in January 2021 grew 44 percent year-on-year. ....

Capital investment during the period increased to $189.4 million, up $40.3 million on last year, with continued investment to improve the business and increase the capacity in the parcels network, including the new Sunshine West Facility which opened pre-Christmas. Parcels and Services revenue was up almost $701 million, or 25.9 per cent, to $3,403 million, largely due to the strongest parcel volumes in the organisation’s history which continued to be delivered to communities across the country during COVID-19 restrictions. Australia Post intends to resume its evaluation of a smart kiosk for post shops that allows customers to lodge packages themselves without staff assistance. Concept SALi - Smart Automated Lodgement API - was commissioned by Australia Post and developed by Melbourne-based meldCX with a handful of other partners. It was unveiled last year at the annual National Retail Federation (NRF) show in the United States. The self-service kiosk is built on AOPEN commercial hardware, and uses AI technology from Intel and cloud services from Google and Microsoft. ....
