Vacaville hires former Fairfield police chief as interim chief
VACAVILLE Former Fairfield police Chief Joseph Allio has been hired as the interim chief at the Vacaville Police Department.
He starts his duties Monday, the city announced in a statement released Thursday. Those duties will include working with an outside consultant to audit the department’s internal culture, training, policies, procedures and community engagement.
Allio worked at the Fairfield Police Department from 1987 to 2017, serving as chief from 2015 to 2017. He took a leave in 1996 to complete a pastoral internship.
“I look forward to the opportunity to serve my hometown as interim police chief,” Allio said in the city statement.
Vacaville releases few details about police K-9 striking incident
VACAVILLE Both the Vacaville police officer and the dog he punched during K-9 training are out of the local program.
The officer, who was immediately returned to regular police duties after the Dec. 28 incident, continues with those assignments, while the dog, Gus, was returned to the vendor who supplied him to the Vacaville Police Department and could very well end up serving at another agency, Kris Concepcion, a city spokesman, said during a phone interview Thursday.
The Vacaville City Council received a presentation on the three independent investigations into the incident, which was caught on video by a neighbor of the training area.

VACAVILLE, Calif. - The Vacaville Police Department is investigating a violent arrest last week of an autistic teenager by an officer responding to a report of a stabbing.
A home security video camera recorded images as the teen was thrown to the ground and punched in the face Wednesday in Vacaville.
Acting Vacaville Police Chief Ian Schmutzler said in a Facebook statement Friday that concerns about how the arrest was handled were justified and the police department leadership was taking them seriously.
The teen, Preston Wolf, was being picked on and got a metal object to defend himself in the altercation that led to police being called, his father, Adam, told a local news outlet. That altercation was broken up before police arrived.

VACAVILLE, CA An investigation has been launched into a Vacaville police officer s recent interactions with an autistic teenager, the city s acting chief of police said.
The 17-year-old boy s father, Adam Wolf, took to Facebook about the incident around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday in which he said the officer acted aggressively toward his son, screamed at him, threw his scooter, threw him to the ground and punched him.
The incident was recorded on a doorbell camera and uploaded by Wolf to Facebook.
