In a sign perhaps of what to expect from the new congress, House Republicans voting behind closed doors monday night overwhelmingly in favor of a proposal that guts its own independent ethics watchdog, tasked with investigating allegations of misconduct among house members. The proposal would place the office of congressional ethics under the oversight of the very lawmakers it oversees.
