Biden to propose restoration of federal funds for abortion

President Biden’s new budget would restore federal funding for abortions for millions of low-income women, the first presidential spending plan in decades to propose discarding the 45-year-old Hyde Amendment.
The proposal is unlikely to become law this year, with supporters facing filibuster barriers in the Senate. But reproductive-rights advocates including a Bay Area lawmaker sponsoring legislation to repeal Hyde’s ban on nearly all federal abortion funding say they’re encouraged.
Lee, meanwhile, says she now has 155 co-sponsors on a bill that would ban the Hyde Amendment in future budgets by changing federal law to provide funding for poor women’s abortions, and that would also repeal a ban on federal funding of abortion coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The measure, which has yet to come to a vote, drew 30 co-sponsors when Lee first introduced it in 2015. ....

I firmly believe there are American citizens and small businesses suffering as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
And I think Americans deserve a shot in the arm via a stimulus check. I m all for it.
Should we be putting money into getting more Americans vaccinated? Absolutely.
Should we be helping out small businesses that have struggled tremendously for over a year? Yes.
But the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act doesn t just bolster support to battle COVID. As a matter of fact, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell points out the majority of it has very little to do with the virus. ....
