POLAND – Days before their prom, Poland Central School District juniors and seniors witnessed a full enactment of what to avoid, as local law enforcement and fire officials participated in a mock fatal car accident caused by drunken driving. 
Herkimer County Sheriff’s Deputy Heather DuPont, the Poland safety patrol officer, said she hopes that intense visuals from the mock accident such as a student in a body bag and a student being stretchered to a helicopter help other students take a lesson away from the experience. 
“Just to get that sense of reality and make them think twice,” DuPont said. “I know it’s a mock, but I hope they take it seriously now, so something like this doesn’t happen.”  ....
