Blast at Chinese Battery Recycler Draws Attention to Industry’s Supply Chain Risks By Annie Lee | January 8, 2021 China’s biggest battery manufacturer has urged a focus on safety issues after an explosion at a recycling affiliate, which has drawn attention to the risks in the industry’s supply chain. The blast at a Hunan Brunp Recycling Technology Co. factory in Hunan province killed one person and seriously injured six others, the local government said on its official Weibo. Hunan Brunp is a unit of Guangdong Brunp Recycling Technology Co., a subsidiary of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Brunp said in a statement on its WeChat that the explosion was caused by fire from waste aluminum foil, adding that it will conduct investigations for any further potential dangers and ensure safe production going forward.
