Sinn Fein: Minister must act on destruction of Irish taxpayer-funded material by Israel
DUBLIN, Tuesday, March 09, 2021 (WAFA) - John Brady, Sinn Fein spokesperson on Foreign Affairs welcomed the decision by the Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence (JCFAD) to write to Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney following the destruction of Irish taxpayer-funded material by Israel.
The letter asks Minister Coveney to summon the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland, Ophir Kariv, to protest against the destruction of Palestinian property, infrastructure, and equipment, paid for by the Irish taxpayer, by Israeli forces. In the first instance, the wanton destruction of Palestinian property by Israel is illegal. It is illegal under international law, and under the Geneva Convention,” said Brady.

Two independent UN human rights experts are urging Israel to halt efforts to demolish the Palestinian village of Humsa Al-Bqai’a, fearing it is part of a wider pattern of forcible removals and displacement.
Michael Lynk, Special Rapporteur for the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, and Balakrishnan Rajagopal, Special Rapporteur on adequate housing, have condemned the move, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.
Humsa Al-Bqai’a is a traditional Bedouin village located in the northern Jordan Valley in the occupied West Bank. The experts said its ongoing destruction by the Israeli army has caused great hardship to the approximately 60 people living there, more than half of whom are children.
