Oakmont officials approve paving, line painting contracts

Oakmont officials tapped a Valencia-based company to cover this year’s paving program.
Council unanimously voted to award a nearly $302,000 contract to Shields Asphalt Paving.
Borough manager Scot Fodi said he is familiar with the company from when he worked at Middlesex and Pine townships. Shields was the lowest of eight bidders.
“They are a competent company that can do the job,” Fodi said.
Borough officials budgeted about $350,000 for the infrastructure upgrades.
Streets to be improved include:
• Virginia Avenue from 12th Street to the cul-de-sac.
• Woodland Avenue from the paving seam east of Wade Lane to the cul-de-sac.
• Fairways Drive from Oak Street to Pinehurst Lane. ....

The paving project advertisement is expected to be approved at the Feb. 15 council meeting with possible contract approval in March.

Temperatures have certainly given us a taste of winter in the last few days.
West Norfolk may have avoided some of the more impressive snowfalls that have affected places only a little to the west of us but as this picture shows the mercury has certainly plummeted down to freezing.
This picture was sent to the Lynn News by Tracey Robinson and was taken in her garden at Hulton Road at Gaywood.

Tracey said: I couldn t believe what I saw in our garden this morning. A tea cup with water coming out of it frozen. It looked amazing, it is sitting on a garden tray with nothing above it so it must have been a couple of droplets that froze straight away. ....

A new housing plan has been proposed in Oakmont with some properties expected to cost more than $1 million.
Oakmont Place, a 12-unit one-floor patio home development off Hulton Road by Eleventh Street, was introduced to council at Tuesday night’s workshop meeting.
Landscape architect Steven Victor of Victor-Wetzel Associates and attorney Jonathan Kamin delivered the presentation on behalf of developer, Cypress Partners.
The area in question is the 4.5-acre site of the former Massaro Mansion property. The three-story white-brick, 15,000-square-foot mansion was built in 1904. It was demolished years ago and property has sat vacant for at least five years. ....
