The daughter of the Jersey City high school teacher who went on a profane, racist tirade during an online class apologized to the students in an open letter addressed to the class.
Aliya Jackson, 32, said the way her father, Howard Zlotkin, treated the Landscape Design class at Dickinson High School in two episodes was wrong.
“I can only imagine how it must have felt to have an authority figure, someone who is supposed to understand and guide you, instead judge and mistreat you,” Jackson said in the letter. “You did nothing to deserve this treatment. ....

Students at a Jersey City, New Jersey, high school logged into their remote landscape and design class expecting a discussion on climate change Wednesday morning.
What they got was an expletive-filled tirade against Black Lives Matter and George Floyd.
“I hear people whining and crying about Black Lives Matter, but George Floyd was a f criminal, and he got arrested and he got killed because he wouldn’t comply, and the bottom line is we make him a f hero,” Howard Zlotkin said over a remote learning session with 15 students, according to NBC New York.
He added that students were glorifying criminals as heroes “because they’re black or because they got a bad story.” ....

A high school teacher in New Jersey has been suspended with pay after sharing “very biased” comments about George Floyd’s death with his students.
Dickinson High School science teacher Howard Zlotkin was supposed to be discussing climate change during a landscape and design class on Zoom with his students. However, he began talking about Black Lives Matter and the death of Floyd, a Black man from Minneapolis who was killed by a police officer.
A video of Zlotkin’s rant, which was shared by WNBC-TV, shows Zlotkin referring to Floyd as a “criminal” who “got arrested” and “killed because he wouldn’t comply.” ....

Breonna Taylor's mother Tamika Palmer to speak on live Zoom event hosted by HCCC

Palmer will take part in HCCC’s Speaker Series event that will stream at 12 noon on Thursday, February 18th, the school announced on Friday.
In keeping with HCCC President’s Advisory Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (PACDEI) practices, the college requests that members of the community participate by submitting questions they may have for Palmer by February 10, 2020 to [email protected] with the subject line “Breonna Taylor.”
Breonna Taylor became a catalyst for the Black Lives Matter movement when she was shot
