East Village the New York City neighborhood hardest hit by COVID with 54 restaurant and bar closures


At least 54 bars and restaurants closed in East Village since March 2020 
West Village was second hardest hit neighborhood in the city with 21 closures
Additional 19 eateries closed on the Lower East Side, followed by 15 each in Williamsburg and Staten Island, 14 on the Upper West Side 
Indoor dining in New York resumed at 25 per cent capacity in February, but there is still 11pm curfew in place

Times Square is getting a little bit of a boost thanks to local restaurants
Visitors are slowly returning to Times Square and the gradual increase appears to be benefitting some local restaurants in particular,
the New York Postreports. It’s still too early to celebrate the development as a victory, but the Times Square Alliance, the group that oversees and promotes the area, is buoyed by the recent uptick in visitors. About 105,000 people are visiting the tourist hotspot on average daily, up from the 35,000 or so who did in March and April last year, as COVID-19 cases skyrocketed in the city. ....
