H.S. Doreswamy, centenarian freedom fighter, activist and Karnataka’s noted voice for freedom of expression, passed away on Wednesday in Bengaluru. He was 104. He breathed his last at Jayadeva Hospital in Bengaluru. He had recently recovered from COVID-19. Born on April 10, 1918, in Harohalli near Bengaluru, he joined the freedom struggle at a young age. While his initial involvement with the freedom movement was radical in nature, he came under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi later. He organised protests and strikes in the erstwhile kingdom of Mysore against the British rule and participated in the Quit India movement. He was jailed for 14 months in 1943-1944. ....
May 26, 2021, 15:35 PM IST Bengaluru: Freedom fighter and activist H S Doreswamy died after suffering a cardiac arrest in a hospital in Bengaluru on Wednesday, he is survived by two children. The 103-year-old freedom fighter had displayed mild symptoms of COVID-19 and returned home in five days. He had recovered from coronavirus infection on May 13. Born on April 10, 1918, Harohalli Srinivasaiah Doreswamy took part in the Quit India movement and was jailed for 14 months. He had also participated in the Mysuru Chalo movement to compel the then Mysuru Maharaja to accede to the Indian State post independence. An alumni of the Central college in Bengaluru, Doreswamy was into the teaching profession and even ran a newspaper called Pauravani . ....
BENGALURU: Freedom fighter H S Doreswamy passed away in Bengaluru on Wednesday. He was 103. One of Karnataka s last links to the freedom struggle, Doreswamy had been an inspiration to generations of activists in the state. Doreswamy had contracted Covid-19 infection on May 6 and was treated at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR) for nearly a week. He was readmitted on May 14, with breathing difficulty and fatigue. The cause of death is severe valvular heart disease, heart failure, and the precipitating factors could be Covid and age,” said Dr C N Manjunath, director of SJICSR. “He had pre existing heart disease for more than 10 years and suffered from the leakage of the left sided valve. He also had chronic obstructive lung disease, for which he was undergoing treatment in our hospital for more than a decade,” said Dr Manjunath. ....
