like a war zone. residents left with simply memories after much of their homes and belongings were destroyed. good afternoon, everyone. that is our big story at noon. those in the town of joplin are combing through the wreckage. j. gray has more on the recovery efforts. certain rescue teams continued to pour through the devastation, looking for any signs of survivors. crews hope to finish their initial sweep by late this afternoon. is really incredible, the fact that we are still finding people. we want to make every opportunity we can to find everybody that is still in the rubble. i am just finding my way around, trying to get to the house. slowly, families are coming back to their splintered homes, trying to find a keepsake. i think everybody is holding up pretty well, but i would guess a lot of people, are in shock. that will take some time. the american people are by your side. we are going to stay there until every home is repaired and every neighbo ....

sparrows point. should they freeze out if they get water on them? no. but again, what this says to us is that we really need to have a clear understanding so those residents have a better sense of what the risks are to them. reporter: the study found arsenic, lead, and mercury poisoning. state environmental fors officials say it s no cause for alarm. these risks are projected out to 30 years of exposure. reporter: someone who is just recreating in the area in general, should not be concerned about this. reporter: dale plumber tows recreational boats. reporter: cleanup is coming but could take several years. it s snarled by lawsuits on who should pay for it. quite frankly, we think if they don t get satisfaction in the court, the federal agency should go and do federal studies themselves and go back and get compensation later. the owner says he has noticed a big increase in the clarity of the water. but he also says he s not a scientist and it s unclear ....
