Retired Army colonel launches primary challenge against Cheney

Retired Army Col. Denton Knapp on Monday became the latest Republican to launch a primary challenge against House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney
“What’s missing right now is trust in our elected officials,” Knapp told the Gillette News Record. “Wyomingites expected Cheney to vote a certain way and she didn’t. As a result, she’s going through consequences.”
Knapp graduated from high school in Gillette, Wyo., and currently resides in California. He told the local publication that he plans to move back to Gillette.

McCarthy schedules vote to oust Cheney for Wednesday

The widely anticipated vote, which will take place behind closed doors and by secret ballot, comes as McCarthy and his pro-Trump allies have been plotting Cheney’s ouster over the past two weeks as she has continued to condemn former President Trump
McCarthy and other Republicans have argued that Cheney’s comments at news conferences, in media interviews and in op-eds have knocked the GOP off message at a moment when the party is trying to unify and win back the House in next year’s midterms.

White House says Biden won't 'underestimate Trump' if he runs in 2024

“I wouldn’t want to estimate or underestimate Donald Trump as an opponent if he chooses to run,” Klain told Axios’s Mike Allen in an interview on “Axios on HBO” that aired Sunday.
“My experience, Mike, is that incumbent presidents are judged on their record,” he added. “President Trump had a bad record in 2020. Joe Biden is hopefully assembling a powerful record to run on if he runs for reelection in 2024.”

Klain’s remarks suggest that the White House is anticipating a potentially tough reelection fight if Trump ultimately decides to mount a political comeback in 2024.
