Across the city, those persons who have been here long term are finding it more and more difficult to stay in the district of columbia. The cost of living is sky the sky is the limit now and particularly as it relates to home ownership. Of course you know that many of our older residents still are renters and so as rents go up, they are greatly affected. Thank goodness those that live in units that are west of connecticut avenue are probably in a rent controlled unit and that helps a lot. And of course when they leave that unit the rent escalates 30 . The story changes. Your respon ....

Involved helping to craft the grand constitution which we put out to the community over six months ago and the response was overwhelming 500 institutions put in applications for innovative practices that they wanted to experiment with to try to improve access and outcomes and drive down cost and the fact that 500 institutions are responding so yes we have to do our part, too. So at the state level i think that our work is to help identify some of the things we are learning from the first in the world grantees and scale them up so they can become more common state practice. In the same vein, one of the areas in which the states and federal government and the k12 system have a common interest is in the teacher preparation. In a particular area of overlap working with the states now to create a set of regulations that will put more tools in the hands of the states to be be a lot of work with institutions to raise the level of the teachers which we think is a key leverage not just in the < ....
Moderator how do you bring that about . Catania that is one question but another is how do we make the schools that . Spent so much time talking about boundaries and what we need to talk about is how we set our schools up to succeed . The high school is a perfect example. Last year 36 of young men in this School Graduated on time and only 49 of young women. Only 43 of our kids are graduating on time. That is a state of emergency. Diversity is very important about what is also import is making sure schools are resources so they can beat the kids as we find them and have success. Moderator with all due respect to lot of people believe there is a direct correlation between lack of diversity and quality of schools.
