Worst great recession in modern history. this president does not respect the african-american community, and every time they throw up these numbers to substitute for the way that this president actually feels, he led the birther movement, to say that president obama was not born in this country and therefore not legitimate. he has a hud director in dr. ben carson that is not upholding fair housing laws. they are pushing more war on drugs back, you know, taking away what president obama had fought to do. voting rights. you name it. this president calling african-americans, congresswoman waters, a low iq, talking against black folks who express themselves in this country, calling omarosa a dog. that does not sound like or represent the central park five. we can go on and on. this president cannot substitute employment rates with his lack of respect for the african-american community. and on top of all that, to know ....

And the consequence of that is it means we have much lower home ownership rates among african-americans, and that central way that middle class families build wealth, the way that a family buys a house and pays a little every month and eventually owns this asset that appreciates, that has just been undercut for african-americans. and so the way i see this is this is why you put a cop on the beat. you put a cop on the beat to say the law is clear, housie housing laws have been out there and fair credit laws have been out there for as long and we say, you know, that is the deal. the last is clear, you can t charge african-americans more than you charge whites. you can t turn them down at higher rates. it should all be about the credit, not about the color of your skin. ....
having spent time in the, quote, inner cities, growing up there, qualifies carson to run hud, there are literally millions of people who are equally qualified for the job. last week when reports said that carson was being considered for secretary of health and human services, his business manager, armstrong williams, who tends to speak for him told the news that carson doesn t have the experience to run a federal bureaucracy and wleev believes would be a disservice to try to do so. the last thing he d want to do is take a position that could cripple the presidency. despite that, carson could soon lead an agency that enforces fair housing laws or doesn t sometimes and overseas funding for public housing among many more responsibilities. joining me now morgan state university johnson and josh barro business insider. i got to say like you know this ....
Important. when you ensure every neighborhood is mixed, people do everyday things together to be comfortable with each other and most importantly the kids go to the same schools. when the kids grow up, they begin to share a future together. this belief was at the heart of many of the efforts of the united states federal government in the 1950s and 60s to desegregate schools and integrate neighborhoods. to court orders, housing laws and executive actions. those were largely abandoned by the 1980s and since then, the data shows the america that remains strikingly segregated. this residential segregation translated into unequal access and basic health care and crucially, education. despite the fact that they ordered segregation 61 years ago, schools have become less diverse in the last two decades. ....
