David Scott Wants To Make Land Grant HBCU Scholarships Permanent

80 House Agriculture Committee Chairman and Georgia Congressman David Scott has introduced legislation to make scholarships for 1890s Land Grant Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Leaders from the 19 Land Grant HBCUs laid out to Congress how a fresh infusion of funding provided by Congress will help educate and train the next generation of agriculture workers. Scott said the testimony will help members of the committee work to make the $80 million scholarship program permanent. “We are moving to make this scholarship program permanent and in order to do that we want to make sure we have the evidence to present that,”  Scott said in a release. “I want to be able to get on the record, all of what this scholarship program means to each of you.”

Feb 22, 2021 The Michigan Retailers Association has applauded state legislators for declaring today to be Supermarket Employee Day in recognition of the critical role Michigan grocery workers have played throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. “From day one, Michigan supermarket employees have worked exceptionally hard during unprecedented times to keep store shelves stocked and environments safe for customers to shop throughout the pandemic,” said William Hallan, president of Michigan Retailers Association. “We are indebted to these unsung heroes and appreciate lawmakers for recognizing the critical role these workers play in keeping our communities fed and in minimizing the spread of COVID-19.” The Michigan Senate adopted Senate Resolution 18, sponsored by Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Kevin Daley (R-Lum) and the Michigan House adopted House Resolution 36, sponsored by House Agriculture Committee Vice-Chair Bryan Posthumus (R-Cannon Township) on Thursday.
