Tema General Hospital in drastic shortage of blood … due to COVID-19 outbreak May 19, 2021 A lady donates blood The Blood Programme Organiser of the Tema General Hospital Blood Bank, John Ahadzi, has warned that if the public does not, as a matter of urgency step in to donate blood to the facility, the repercussions would be regrettable. As at 11am on Tuesday, the Tema General Hospital Blood Bank had just 40 units of blood, which according to him, was woefully inadequate to meet the needs of the hospital. According to him, the blood bank had been terribly hit by the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) because individuals and institutions do not donate to them as was the case before possibly for fear of contracting the virus in the process of donating blood. ....
The awards were announced during a virtual conference Surat: SMIMER Hospital Blood Bank, which is run by Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), has received the prestigious Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and immunohematology (ISBTI), TRANSCON-2020 award. The recognition came SMIMER’s way for its Convalescent Plasma donation collection activity. The awards were announced during a virtual conference. The Excellent Blood Bank Award was given to SMIMER Hospital Blood Bank for collecting the highest units of Convalescent Plasma from donors who have recovered from Covid-19 infection. SMIMER collected 1,883 units of plasma, the most in country. Dr Ankita Shah got the Corona Warrior Award encouraging donors. Three plasma donors Jaideep Ravani (12 times), Dr Alpesh Chitroda (10 times) and Dr Chetankumar Chitroda (10 times) were awarded for their voluntary services. ....
