In January, Ward County 4-H competed in the national Virtual 4-H Contests Invitational hosted by Utah State University Extension.
The invitational offered contests in multiple subjects such as consumer decision making, livestock and dairy judging, family consumer science, hippology and horse contests, and speech contests. Emily Fannik, Max; Scarlett Parlier, Garrison; Anne Schauer, Carpio; and Mikaela Woodruff, Garrison qualified from their performance at the Northwest Halloween Hippology contest.
Fannik, Parlier, Schauer, and Woodruff competed as a team in the virtual Hippology contest.
Hippology is divided into four phases: horse judging, written exam, stations, and team problem.
In the horse judging phase, the team had to analyze two halter classes and two performance classes by logging into an online platform. The halter classes consisted of aged APHA (Paint Horse) mares and Arabian geldings. The performance classes consisted of a Western Pleasure and Hunter
