Christchurch City Council says its hands are tied on quarry setback issue

An appeal against the Roydon Quarry decision had been lodged in the Environment Court.
Mayor Lianne Dalziel told Penny the council agreed with her on the proposed setback distance.

Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel says Christchurch City Council does not have the ability to help.
It pushed for greater setbacks when the district plan was being developed a few years ago, but the independent hearing panel did not agree.
“We can’t change the district plan to achieve any greater setbacks; we tried and were not successful in doing that. The solution is not here.”
Dalziel said the council s proposal for a buffer zone was rebuffed. ....
