afghanistan now is going to become a hotbed of terrorism? jake, we have tremendously more capacity than we had before 9/11 when it comes to counterterrorism. in places around the world where we don t have forces on the ground, in yemen, parts of africa, parts of syria, we are able to deal with any potential terrorist threat to our country and we re doing that every single day. we re going to retain in the region the over the horizon capacity as we call it to see and deal with any re-emergence of a terrorist threat. look, i can t tell you what the taliban is going to do, but again, in their self-interest, allowing a repeat of what happened before 9/11 which is a terrorist group to re-emerge in afghanistan that has designs on the united states, well, they know what happened last time so i don t think it is in their self-interest to allow that again. all right. secretary anthony blinken thank you so much for taking our questions. we appreciate it. thanks for having me. the top for
tonight, the wall street journal is planning for emergency evacuation in kabul, but despite the concerns, the today president biden made clear that despite all of these concerns, it is time for afghanistan to handle its own security. look, we re in that war for 20 years. 20 years. i think they have the capacity to it be able to sustain the government. we have worked out an over the horizon capacity that we can be value added. but the afghans have to do it themselves with the air force they have. with the potential collapse of the afghan government looming
concerned that the deal with the internal issues that they have to be able to generate the kind of support they need nationwide to maintain the government. on afghanistan if there is evidence that kabul is threatened, with some your intelligence reports suggested, it could be in six months or thereabouts, do you think you have the capability to help provide any kind of air support, military support, to them to keep the capitol safe even if the u.s. troops are obviously pulling out? we have worked out an over the horizon capacity and we could be value added. but the afghans have to be able to do it themself with the air force they have which we re helping them maintain. i m not going to answer any more. quick question on the afghanistan. look, it is fourth of july.
