Senatorial aspirant Harry Roque (File photo) MANILA - UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque said he would push for Charter Change (Cha-cha) three years after the pandemic to amend certain provisions in the Constitution that are prone to abuse. Roque was reacting to President Rodrigo Duterte's statement on the need for constitutional amendments to stop rich politicians from abusing the charter. "If the time comes, I'm talking about the young ones, and mayors, congressmen change the Constitution. The Constitution is not a perfect one," Duterte said on Cha-cha. Roque said he would prefer a Senate with regional representation, which is cheaper during elections, and that senators could focus more on their constituents. "Siguro panahon na para maging regional ang mga senador. Meron din silang constituents at hindi naman napakamahal [ang pagtakbo] dahil napakahirap naman para sa mga ordinaryong taong kagaya ko na tumakbo sa Senado (Maybe it's time for senators to ....
(Courtesy of Peace Philippines Facebook) MANILA - A senatorial candidate is wondering why a so-called rights organization is relentless in its character assassination of President Rodrigo Duterte and himself when it has close ties with local groups declared as terrorists by western countries. Duterte had already urged the public to dismiss the party-list group Bayan Muna in the May 9 elections. It is part of the militant Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan), a founding member of the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP). UniTeam bet Harry Roque, who has litigated human rights cases in Philippine and international courts, said he does not know which is more preposterous, his accusers or the accusation that he violated human rights. "What alleged crimes against humanity did I exactly commit under domestic and international laws?" Roque asked the ICHRP in a news release on Saturday. Roque, the first Asian admitted to practice before the International ....

UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque (PPD file photo) MANILA - UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque favors the legalization of same-sex marriage because everyone deserves to choose whoever they want to love. If elected, Roque, a human rights lawyer, said he would file a bill legalizing same-sex marriage for the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual) community. "Pabor po ako diyan dahil hindi po puwede manghimasok ang estado pagdating sa isyu kung sinong mamahalin at sinong magiging kapiling sa buhay (I am in favor of that because the estate cannot interfere when it comes to the issue of who to love and who to be with in life)," Roque said. On Jan. 6, 2020, the Supreme Court announced it had dismissed a motion to reconsider its September 2019 ruling denying a petition to approve same-sex marriage. Roque also said he favors divorce so that children will not suffer from parents' "bad marriage." "Pabor din po ako dy ....
(File photo) MANILA - UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque favors the legalization of marijuana use for medical purposes. If elected, Roque, a human rights lawyer, said he would file a bill legalizing the use of marijuana as long as it is used to help ease the pain of cancer patients. "(I'm) strongly in favor, kasi po ngayon ako po ay nag-aalaga ng isa ng matandang dalagang tiya na nagpalaki sakin (because now I am taking care of my old maid aunt who raised me). She's in pain because of breast cancer at sabi nga nila (and they said), I wish we could use marijuana in this instance para maibsan ang kanyang sakit (to ease her pain)," the former presidential spokesperson said in a news release on Wednesday. In 2019, the House of Representatives approved on third and final reading House Bill No. 6517 or the proposed "Philippine Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act" that seeks to provide compassionate and right of access to medical cannabis and expand research i ....
