Community remembers District Court Judge Ruben Reyes


He was a strong advocate for and presided over the county s Adult Drug Court.
364th District Court Judge William Eichman said he cared deeply for those struggling with addiction.
He would provide a sounding board for them. He d get to know them. He was more than just the Drug Court judge to them he was their family in some ways. I think if you don t have the heart for it, you shouldn t do it. He did and that s just the person that he was, Eichman said.
He was appointed to the bench in 2006, covering both Lubbock and Crosby counties.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Funeral arrangements have been announced for Honorable Ruben G. Reyes.
Reyes died from complications after an extended battle with COVID-19. Reyes was 56-years-old.
Visitation has been scheduled at the Church on the Rock South Campus. Visitation times are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 16, 2020.
The family of Judge Reyes will hold a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Church on the Rock-South Campus. ....

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lubbock is mourning the loss of the Honorable Ruben G. Reyes, State District Judge for Texas 72nd District Court, Lubbock and Crosby County.
Reyes died from complications after an extended battle with COVID-19. He was 56.
Reyes was appointed to the bench by Gov. Rick Perry in 2006 and won reelection on Nov. 3, 2020.
Judge Reyes was recognized nationally as a leader and an advocate for specialty courts, particularly his work with Lubbock County’s Drug Court, working to help drug addicts in the legal system get treatment and get help with basic needs. ....

Turlock City Clerk Jennifer Land swears in new District 4 Council member Pam Franco.
Two new members of the Turlock City Council were sworn into office on Tuesday, following the official results of the November election. City Clerk Jennifer Land gave the oath of office to new District 2 Council member Rebecka Monez and District 4 Council member Pam Franco. Monez, who defeated incumbent Council member Gil Esquer for the District 2 seat, was sworn in via Zoom. Franco, who will follow Becky Arellano in representing District 4, was sworn in at City Hall. Incumbent City Treasurer Diana Lewis was also sworn in to another term of office after defeating challenger Matt Beekman for the position. After being sworn into office, the new Council members also took the City of Turlock’s special oath of integrity, administered by the Honorable Ruben Villalobos. ....
