Lio Kuokman, Resident Conductor of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Awarded HKADC Artist Of The Year (Music)

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) has announced Mr Lio Kuokman, the orchestra's Resident Conductor, who has been awarded Artist of the Year (Music) of the 16th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC).

Discussion will be hosted by Kris Coad, artist and Lecturer in Ceramics, School of Art at RMIT University. This event is hosted by CAST Contemporary Art and Social Transformation research group. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Fiona Wong Lai Ching is a renowned and well-respected ceramic artist in Hong Kong. She was selected as the Artist of the Year (Visual Arts) in the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2017. She received a Starr Foundation award from the Asian Cultural Council in 2000 and was elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics in Geneva in 2007. She has been appointed Expert Advisor for Hong Kong Museums since 2014. Photo: Xiaomei Chen Accompanied by soothing music, professional contemporary dancer Ong Yong Lock moves his body to the rhythm, while a group of about 20 elderly people try their best to follow his lead. There are no difficult moves or dance techniques. But unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed and direction - a feature of the art form - occasionally catch the amateur dancers, all above 50, by surprise, and they break out in laughter and applause.
