According to Housing North, northern Michigan as a whole has a significant gap in available housing. A study by LandUse USA in 2019 shows the need for over 15,600 units to meet current demand. About 70% of that is for rentals. Most of that demand is for homes priced below $200,000, or for rentals below $800 a month. (File photo)
