GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Applications are now open for Gwinnett County s emergency rental assistance program for residents who need help paying their rent and utility bills.
It s called Project Reset 2.0 and will be an expansion of the county s original assistance plan.
Gwinnett County says it will use more than $28.1 million in stimulus funds from the Federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program to make payments directly to landlords and utility providers, to cover past due balances for renters.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners said Tuesday applications are open for Project RESET 2.0, an expansion of the county s emergency rental assistance program.
The program will provide $28.1 million in stimulus funds to landlords and utility providers to settle past-due bills.
The program will offer up to 15 months of total assistance.
Tenants and landlords interested in participating in this program can access the Project RESET 2.0 application portal and program resources at GCGA.us/RentalAssistance.
Billions in rent relief passed with economic stimulus package
Georgia is expected to receive hundreds of millions of dollars to help tenants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, after President Donald Trump signed a stimulus bill on Sunday that he previously called a “ shame. ”
The package includes a new $ 25 billion deportation prevention fund, and extends for one month the Centers for Disease Control deferral moratorium that expired December 31.
With the extension of deadlines and an infusion of new funds, “We can take a deep breath,” said Matthew Elder, the director of HomeFirst Gwinnett, a non-profit organization working with the Magistrate Court on a new deportation prevention program funded by CARES. .
Gwinnett County officials got something unusual on Wednesday: a budget public hearing where no one got up to speak about items in the countyâs proposed budget. But that doesnât mean they wonât necessarily hear from the public on the budget.
Although the only public hearing scheduled on the $1.91 billion proposed budget has come and gone, residents will be able to continue submitting written feedback through the end of this month. The cutoff for written public comment is Dec. 31.
âWeâve been providing the online mechanism for providing comments and certainly comments that are sent by email to the staff or to the commissioners will be fed into the overall package of information about comments that are received from the public,â Gwinnett County Commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash said during the hearing. âThis (hearing) is not only way to provide comments.â
