resources there were. i didn t know the strength of the community. had i known the support, and the simplicity that i could bring to it and the excitement and the fun, i would have-maybe i would have been brave enough to try it way back then. ainsley: what about socializing? do you get together with other home schooled kids. we get together with other kids and home school families here in vermont we have a super strong home school network. and we kick off the year with our home school not back-to-school first day family picnic and we get to connect and share resources. materials, and really in small or larger groups there is opportunity to connect as much or little as you like. ainsley: kristen, thank you for opening our eyes to home schooling there were 2.5 home coolers in 2019 when the pandemic hit and now there are 5 million. in your state in vermont home
i see they don t care about my kids. they care more about politics. this is one of the results of it. i think it s a silver lining. will: do you know what i would like to see and this would be hard because the number of students each year enrolling fluctuates. i would love to know public school and private school and total home schooling enrollment. i would like to see the shifts in those populations over the past year. rachel: the home schooling is up. and interestingly, home schooling is up quite a bit with hispanic and black parents. people who weren t traditionally home coolers. and, again, you are seeing this rise in interest in private schools. here s what s also interesting there was a great op-ed this past week. corey deangela s wrote it in the wall street journal check that out. the idea of attaching the money to your child as opposed to an institution as opposed to a system is growing in popularity among democrats. because even democrats are frustrated you can imagine what
realize that home schooling isn t as intimidating as they may have previously thought. they are realizing that there are very online learning resources available to them that are really high quality. much better in many cases than zoom schools that kids have been participating in. and many of these programs are free or low cost. they are also able to connect with local home school groups. that s often my first piece of advice is find facebook groups or other social networks in your local area. they have seen tremendous growth and numbers as well this year and typically really welcoming of perspective home coolers who are just trying to see what s available in their local area and can be incredibly supportive in finding curriculum and activities and overall encouragement. teachers who decided to do this home school route. obviously you have some advantages over those of us who aren t teachers. what are. so challenges and what are the things you love about it. some. challenges would
