The Conservative Party seized total control of Northumberland County Council by one seat in a count which ended in a dramatic dead heat draw.
Better public services and protecting the environment are among the priorities set out by the prospective candidates running for the same Tyne Valley ward in the local elections. Polls for both county and parish council seats will go ahead as scheduled in May, despite earlier concerns in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Holly Waddell is the Labour Party candidate for the Bywell ward. Her bid comes after Coun. Karen Quinn (Con), who currently holds the seat, said she would not be standing for re-election. In a statement, the Conservative Party said: “With the elections scheduled for May 6, Northumberland Conservatives are in the process of finalising the last few places they have yet to fill for candidates. The party has been overwhelmed by the number of applicants and nearly all sitting councillors have indicated that they wish to continue.
