Grand East London house once home to one of first infant schools | East London and West Essex Guardian Series


Church Hill, leading from Hoe Street to Prospect was once known as Parsonage Hill, and was where the Rectory Manor house once stood in Walthamstow. In 1784-5 a large three storey house was built on the opposite side of the road, later known as Church Hill House.
It was a typical gentleman’s red brick house, and was set in large gardens with an orchard, and meadlowland bounded by Hoe Street to the west and to where St Mary’s Road is today to the south.
In the early 19th century the house was one of the residences of the Sims family who also owned a house in London Street. The Sims were actively involved with slavery in Jamaica; merchant John Sims had owned the Holland Estate in Trelawney, and his daughter Frances married James William Freshfield, founder of legal firm Freshfields who had plantation owners amongst their clients, and were involved in later compensation claims. John’s lawyer son Charles James Sims was a resident slave owner and Member of the Assemb ....

EastendHomes offers full fibre broadband with Community Fibre

London ISP Community Fibre has signed a wayleave agreement with social landlord EastendHomes in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
With the partnership, Community Fibre will bring its full fibre broadband network to 4,000 EastendHomes residents, offering high speed internet connectivity up to 1Gbps or 3Gbps depending on the areas.
The growing fibre broadband provider will work with the social landlord over the next year to upgrade the building management systems (including door entry, CCTV and lift monitoring) to 100% full fibre to increase energy efficiency and security of the buildings.
Six of EastendHomes’ community centres located across Tower Hamlets will be provided with Community Fibre’s Gigafast connection for free. This initiative follows as a pilot roll-out has started at Wager & Royston street onto Bede Estate in March, expanding to Holland Estate in April. ....

Thousands of families on East End housing estates are being connected to broadband internet after a deal with social landlords. 
Eastend Homes has signed a “wayleave agreement” with Community Fibre and Tower Hamlets Council to wire up 4,000 homes. 
The deal aims to provide 100 per cent fast internet connection with 1G to 3G speeds depending on the neighbourhood. 
“The past year has shown how critical it is to stay connected,” Community Fibre’s Graeme Oxby said. “All Londoners have the right to access fast broadband as much as any other utility service.”  ....
