Or movie theater. In March, New York state ordered the venues closed to help stop the spread of COVID-19. In late October, the state announced cinemas could reopen at 25 percent capacity. “I thought we’d be selling out 25 percent easily,” said Yantz, whose company owns and operates The Strand at 93 Main St. in Brockport, along with movie houses in Geneseo, Canandaigua and Auburn. “That didn’t happen. We were only getting a handful of people for each show. There’s a lot of overhead, so it’s very, very difficult for us to survive.”

Celebrating the holiday together has been far from easy this year, but Allegheny County’s Parks Department is up to the challenge.
The Holiday Laser Show, created by North Carolina-based Emerald Owl Productions, is set to music ranging from Bing Crosby’s soothing Christmas classics to the raucous rock tunes of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The 45-minute show, with audience members parked in the lot of the North Park Swimming Pool, is a welcome addition and it could become a local holiday tradition.
