North myrtle beach. when i look straight ahead of me over there, we re only about 200 yards from what is called the hog inlet. that stretches down a long stretch of this beach. you have a 200-yard spit of land. when we get that high tide surge that they tell us will be several feet, when that comes in, bill, coupled with this huge rainfall we re getting right now which will go on for hour after hour after hour, you know that that ocean is very likely to meet that inlet. that spells disaster for all of these homes that sit between the ocean and the inlet. it is a very serious situation here. most of the residents of north myrtle beach and myrtle beach itself a little to the south did get out. some are riding it out here. we re staying in touch with them and trying to give them all the information they need to keep as safe as possible. as you just heard from fema, the message from all officials ....
saying it s not hype at all. we are doing a job, we are echoing what officials are saying. this is a very, very dangerous storm. if you can just come back to us here, harris, i want to point out that the way you see the final tall buildings here, that is where there is an inlet, it s called the hog inlet. that comes around the back, and as you come back to this side, that inlet comes all the way around here and is just about 50 to 100 yards across that site. you get a 9-foot storm surge here, harris, and this ocean is going to meet that inlet and every single one of these properties for about a mile of this beachfront. they are going to get very, very badly damaged by floodwaters. those floodwaters, as rick said, every official in south carolina has been saying they are going to stretch far, far inland. this is still an extremely dangerous storm. it is the flooding that is going to present to the most extreme ....
